A blog by a nobody teenager from a nowhere city in a nowhere state! You can't get much more indie DIY punx than that, to be sure. So I've decided to make a blog for pouring out lists and stuff. People won't read it, but I'll build it up in my head as some grand venture.
"Do it for the blog, man."
So here's one for the blog. It's a list. I think everything in this blog will end up being a list if it doesn't go into some short story with marginal fictional value.
So, to bring it all together, here's a list of the best albums this year:
- Okkervil River - The Stand-Ins. I'm right. Also, I don't really care about any other cds as much as this one, even though it's not as good as The Stage Names or Black Sheep Boy.
- The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride/Black Pear Tree/Satanic Messiah. A return to short story songs was nice, as well as the fact that these songs are just... awesome. The EPs are all fantastic, too. Especially Black Pear Tree.
- The Hold Steady - Stay Positive. Oh shit, Craig Finn is singing songs about people getting high and crunk and into religion!
- Margot And The Nuclear So And So's - Animal/Not Animal. It was all I listened to for a few weeks. And since then, I have retreated back into The Dust Of Retreat. Do you see what I did there?
Everything else that was pretty rad:
The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound
Titus Andronicus - The Airing of Grievances
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Dig!!! Lazarus!!! Dig!!!
Why? - Alopecia
Everything else was okay, I guess. I only ever listen to The Weakerthans anymore, anyway. Oh well.
So, feel free to stop by and enjoy the bloggin'. I'm sure I'll have a lot to whine about, a lot to pump up as the greatest, and even more to just be so ambivalent about that it's entirely uninteresting to hear me praddle on about it!
